Post 8: What I learned this semester

I can actually say that this semester I learned quite a lot. My mind has been expanded to what I did know on op of learning some additional things. Coming into the class I did not know what a rhetorical situation was and that was one of our first assignments connected to. Perhaps I knew what a rhetorical situations was just not in the academic term. Another thing I earned was how to use outside sources in academic writing. Usually in high school as mentioned before we are only taught to list the sources but not necessarily use them in the writing. I found this concept to be even more helpful because it helps your audience to grab different points of views on a specific topic.

Post 07: Compare and Contrast between academic writing in high school vs. college

When it comes to writing I believe both high school and college have the same approach when it comes to writing a academic paper. In High school writing is important, but not in the same way as college. In High school usually students are taught structure in a academic paper. Teachers usually will tell the students the assignment, how many words, how many pages etc, and give the breakdown on how the paper should flow. In college on the other hand professors want a little bit more from their students for example everything has to mean something and have support including your sources. College professors are to pull their students into having a more open mind to things.
