Post 6: Boyd's use of rhetorical strategies

Janet Boyd intends for her audience to complete a few exercise contributing to crime scenes as an investigator in order to demonstrate the importance of jargon. One of the rhetorical strategies I noticed in her essay is when she basically gives a prompt and then gives the readers a few questions to guide them through the exercise to provoke a response from reader to persuade them during the communication.  Janet mentioned in her essay that every piece of writing needs a starting point an a perspective. She then began to give examples based on a few students reports that they all pretty much spoke in first person the give their point of view. Janet in my opinion was really persuasive and how her essay was set up really helped me to think more on how I lay out my writing.

Post 5: Organizational strategy used for Doc 2

Writing Doc 2 was very hard to stick to just one specific strategy so I decided to use two. The two organizational strategies I decided to use are description and also problem and solution. I chose description as one of my organizational strategies because I will be explaining what it means to be a biology major and other things such as the the pros and cons, and the many different career paths they can choose from. I chose problem and solution also as a organizational strategy simply because the audience is targeted toward undecided college and I feel like introducing a nice major could be a solution to their problem because being a biology major isn't a limited type thing it branches out into different career fields. The counterargument to this would probably be what if biology is not a solution to many undecided college students or how do I know if  my target audience have it made up in there mind what t...

Post 4: My rhetorical situation for Doc 2.

In the Doc 2 assignment I will be persuading undecided college students to chose biology as their major and why. Being a biology major basically opens up the field of choice for many students. Basically what I am sayin is being a biology major can lead to many career choices its not something that is limited. I will be discussing why I chose the major and other different things that I have learned about the major that is not necessarily discussed often. I want my target audience to understand what it is to actually be a biology major and also the pro's and cons. I remember being un decided college student not knowing which route to take to get into my desired field, so I feel as if I can put myself into those shoes and hopefully help others gain knowledge. I didn't really have anyone to put me into the direction in which way to go I found out simply by just doing my own research, and I wish I had someone to give me a layout on how to get things d...

Post 3: Using outside sources in academic writing

Outside sources are very important when it comes to academic writing. In my opinion it gives the reader an idea on different people’s input on a specific topic or situation. I also think its a good way to express what you are trying to say about the topic as well. One of the main reasons writers tend to use outside sources is basically because they find inspiration in the work of other people who previously wrote on the subject. The outside sources are in the writing to support an argument. There are typically 3 factors that go into academic writing which are incorporating the source in your writing, introducing the outside source, and interpreting it.           When you are incorporating your outside source this is when you are stating who the author is and putting what they said in quotations and explaining how the particular excerpt supports your claim. Introducing the outside source point towa...

Post 2: My Rhetorical Situation

In my previous post or doc 1 assignment I covered the topic of perfectionism/low self esteem, and I'm now explaining the rhetorical situation. Apart of my purpose is to let my audience be aware that this is an issue. Most people actually think that the characteristic of perfectionism is a good quality, as sad as it may sound most people actually thing having a low self esteem is apart of being humbled. I want to warn the readers that this behavior causes destruction to mental health and can be an hindrance to their performance level in school.                      A good question a writer needs to address in their writing is "Who needs to hear this message?" We all know know that writers write out of the context of a specific problem or issue in response to a variety of emotions and beliefs. For example, Dr Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech was a response...
