Post 2: My Rhetorical Situation

In my previous post or doc 1 assignment I covered the topic of perfectionism/low self esteem, and I'm now explaining the rhetorical situation. Apart of my purpose is to let my audience be aware that this is an issue. Most people actually think that the characteristic of perfectionism is a good quality, as sad as it may sound most people actually thing having a low self esteem is apart of being humbled. I want to warn the readers that this behavior causes destruction to mental health and can be an hindrance to their performance level in school.

A good question a writer needs to address in their writing is "Who needs to hear this message?" We all know know that writers write out of the context of a specific problem or issue in response to a variety of emotions and beliefs. For example, Dr Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech was a response to the civil rights issues during the 1950s and 1960s. During that time we know that there was conflict issues between two parties and He was kind of like the mediator. When I say he was like a mediator his audience was both parties to agree on something or look at a particular situation and agree on a solution. So his audience was basically the African Americans to instill hope and also the whites to get them to understand the pain African Americans were going through. I say all of that to say that my target audience is anyone who is struggling with the opinions of others that cause them to want to be without error because of the fear of judgement.

My topic is psychologists based so I did some research to see what professionals has already declared about the perfectionism and self esteem issues. According to GoodTherapy.com, the author declared '' Perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be your best. Perfection is not about healthy achievement and growth." As you can tell by my earlier conclusion that most people actually believe this type of behavior is good quality. I most definitely agree with the author and the point she was making there.

The next thing I wanted to write about is what is going on around the perfectionism/ low esteem issue. Most factors may vary including how are people handling it, what steps are being taking to overcome, or are people out seeking knowledge and help from therapy professionals. Based on some research I have done and according to Self-Esteem School.com, " 85% of the world's population are affected by low self esteem. That is a humongous number of people! A lot of people handle it well and others including teens and young adults hide it behind other things like drinking, smoking and eating disorders.

I want to be apart of the topic of this issue simply because I have personal experience that I would love to share to give my readers hope and insight and also to encourage them. No everyone has a cheerleader on their team and that's understandable. I would like to bring my personal knowledge to the table and also my opinions and beliefs to get people out of the negative way of thinking to be perfect and people pleasing and to share ways to love themselves.
